Gertjan Meutgeert on our technical advisory services
Partner Gertjan Meutgeert has been working on projects in the energy transition since 2011. Over the years he has built a team of experts with in-depth technical, regulatory, and market knowledge. What kinds of topics are they working on? Let’s find out more!
Why start a technical advisory team?
“Projects in the energy context are often highly complex and highly technical. Over the years, we already built a wealth of knowledge about technical, regulatory and market developments in the international multi-stakeholder projects we have been involved in. We employ some world-class energy experts: last year, we welcomed Ksenia Tolstrup – a renowned expert in energy economics and flexibility- and Reinhard Kaisinger, a much-valued expert in the area of market coupling. Together with our other highly skilled experts in energy analytics, we offer a full array of services.”
So what kinds of services do you offer?
“On the one hand, we offer regulation and energy analytics services. Many clients are on the brink of implementing some major changes in their operations, methodologies, or concepts. What are the different options for implementation? How can they mitigate any gaps and risks? Next to that, we offer energy modelling and strategy services. We see many clients struggling to make strategic decisions or to assess implications in the complex and rapidly evolving energy sector. How will regulatory and policy changes – now and in the future – affect their organisation? For instance, their bidding strategies, the prices of ancillary service markets, or effects on their investment decisions. What is the market potential of an investment in, say, flexible assets or grid development? Our experts can help them choose the best way forward.”
How are clients responding to this?
“Well, last Tuesday, we organised a launch event with a broad group of energy system stakeholders. It proved a great success. In general, there’s a great need for these services. We’ve already been working on many regulatory analyses: forecasting market developments and anticipating their effects on organisations’ planned investments and operations. Also, we just finished a project, in which we assessed the impact of the upcoming regulation on cross-border hydrogen infrastructure. As our client put it, ‘We didn’t know what we needed to know, but you guided us and provided it anyway.’ That is exactly the role we want to play! Helping our clients to navigate the complexities of the energy transition.”
