Magnus Energy strengthens its Nordics team with Michael Fogtmann

Magnus Energy strengthens its Nordics team with the appointment Michael Fogtmann, a highly experienced consultant at the intersection of technology and the energy transition. He joins as a director, bringing valuable experience and a strong network in the Nordics and the Wind industry. Let’s meet Michael and take a closer look at his background and his new role.

Can you tell us a bit about your professional background?

I started in software development almost 30 years ago and gradually moved into programme and team leadership, with a strong focus on agile ways of working and modernising how organisations deliver software and technology change. After working across several industries, I entered the energy sector in 2019 on a consulting assignment for energy supplier Vattenfall – and found my purpose.

What did this assignment entail?

This assignment at Vattenfall begin with the migration of the company’s data centre, including improving redundancy, establishing Agile ways of working, and strengthening its data backbone. I then went on to lead a team working on a new control room: implementing a Level 2 Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System.

This system acts as a centralised integration layer, pulling data from multiple systems (for example, SCADA systems from turbines and inverters) into a single, unified interface. It is a must-have for The Control Room of the Future. These are very high stakes and complex projects, and it was a privilege to work on this with a team of internal and external experts.

Can you share a bit more about your work in the wind sector?

One key assignment was for Siemens Gamesa, the wind division of Siemens. There, I acted as the programme manager for a complete redesign of the SCADA system that was used across Siemens global turbine fleet. This involved collaboration to align across teams in the different locations and functions.

Cybersecurity was a key focus throughout the project. As systems and operations become increasingly connected, ensuring security across both operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) is becoming ever more critical.

What made you decide to join Magnus Energy?

I’m highly motivated to contribute to the renewable energy transition and to work on initiatives with long-term impact. That aligns perfectly with the values of Magnus Energy. I also significant opportunities to combine my experience with Magnus Energy’s expertise. The company’s strong track record in electricity market integration and its regulatory know-how are highly relevant for the wind industry as well.

Equally important to me is building a culture where teams do excellent work and enjoy working together – and that exactly what I found at Magnus Energy.

How would you describe your leadership approach?

I focus on providing a clear direction while placing strong trust in my specialists. I enjoy building teams where people are ambitious and take ownership of delivering strong results – in a way that is both sustainable and motivating. It’s what I’ve been doing with my previous employments, and what I’m looking forward to doing here as well.

Søren Damsgaard, who leads the Nordic team, says: “I’m thrilled to have Michael on our team. His experience is invaluable, as is his ability to build motivated, fast-learning teams. I’m very much looking forward to expanding our Nordic presence and tapping into new opportunities with Michael on board.”
