Magnus Energy welcomes Bob Hebb
Magnus Energy is expanding to Brussels, welcoming renowned market development expert Bob Hebb. Bob has played a key role in groundbreaking energy developments and is known for introducing innovative ancillary services. What does his 25+ years of experience entail? And what are his ambitions for our new Brussels hub? Let’s find out.
Bob, can you tell us about your professional background?
After graduating as a commercial engineer, I started my career at the energy supplier Électricité de France. In 2007 I moved to Elia, Belgium’s transmission system operator (TSO). During my time there, I first worked on various market design topics, including economic studies for new interconnectors. Later, I was closely involved in drafting the European Guideline on Balancing. I was also a member of various international projects teams that work on the cross-border exchange of balancing energy, such as IGCC, Mari, and Picasso.
Any highlights you are particularly proud of?
One is developing and implementing a multi-year roadmap for all ancillary services (including congestion) and balancing products. The key objective was to give access to all types of market players such as aggregators, and all types of technologies on all voltage levels. I was also involved in the implementation of new innovative concepts such as real-time price signals for market players and dynamic reserve-sizing. Eventually, I led a team of 8 people working on these developments.
Another highlight is during my time at Coreso, a Regional Coordination Centre (RCC) that I joined in 2021. Coreso coordinates high-voltage electricity flows for European TSOs to support them in ensuring the security of electricity supply on a European regional basis. While there, I managed a 40-person team developing key coordination services, including capacity calculation across multiple timeframes, common grid model, coordinated security analysis, short-term adequacy, and outage planning coordination, for multiple European capacity calculation regions such as CORE, SWE, and Italy-North.
Why did you decide to transfer to Magnus Energy?
I just love to innovate and build new things. Using my knowledge and experience, I want to help even more organisations across Europe. I reached out to Magnus Energy because they are an ambitious, international, and open-minded team. I’m excited to establish its hub in Brussels and take on a new challenge. Building something new again.
What can clients expect from you?
My focus is developing products in energy system flexibility: grid access, grid connections, and market design. I turn unconventional ideas into real concepts, products, and solutions. Of course, this is always done together with a strong team.
“I’m thrilled to have Bob on board. He has been at the forefront of many new developments in the European energy sector, many of which Magnus Energy also worked on throughout the years. We share a lot of common ground, and I can’t wait to build our Brussels hub together. Bob is a quick and original thinker, who brings something extra to our team.”
