Valerie Reif on organising Market Coupling Masterclasses
With the European energy landscape evolving rapidly, understanding and predicting the impact of the ongoing changes on the European grid is essential for TSOs, NEMOs, regulators and market participants. Over the years, Magnus Energy has developed a deep understanding of the EU energy market and has contributed to the analysis of these implications. The Advisory Consulting branch of Magnus Energy supports organisations in their analysis and studies of the European energy landscape through data analysis, load-flow computations, simulation support, business process analysis, regulation and market design.
Any specific project highlights?
Certainly, it’s challenging to choose, but a few highlights include involvement in multiple implementations of energy management systems (EMS) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. Additionally, I collaborated on co-creating an innovation funnel, assisting a client in reaching sustainability targets and decarbonising its business and that of its customers. This involved creating a methodology and portfolio to define, select, and execute innovations as an incubator for new initiatives, both in business and technology, to realise a sustainable future.
What were the outcomes?
“I believe we met our goals to share knowledge of European Market Coupling with the MCSC TSOs. We received a lot of positive feedback so far. People told us they finally ‘got the full picture’ of Market Coupling and were happy to connect to others. Many asked for more learning opportunities. Together with the MCSC TSO conveners, we are now developing a training program that offers opportunities at beginners and advanced levels every quarter from 2024.”
