Welcoming Nordics Director Søren Monbjerg Damsgaard

Could you tell us a bit about your background?

After graduating as an electrical engineer, I began my career at Danish TSO Energinet. I worked a decade at Energinet in the areas of System Operations and IT, working mainly with project and programme management of business transformational initiatives and as head of an IT department. In 2021, I started my journey as a consultant and worked on digital transformation initiatives for customers, both at Vestas and at Nordic RCC.

Any highlights you’d like to share?

In recent years, I served as the programme manager for the implementation of Day-Ahead Flow-Based Market Coupling in the Nordic region. It went live last year – a result of a successful cooperation between the Nordic TSOs, Nordic RCC, NEMOs, and other participants. Currently, I am managing the important next step in Nordic Flow-Based implementation for the Intraday timeframe.

What would you say is the common thread in this?

My speciality is complex programme management, particularly those programs with high impact and many stakeholders. I strive to deliver on time while focusing on value creation and the impact of the change on the business. For me, working with integrity is essential, by collaborating with all participants and using a structured risk-based approach. When I encountered the team of Magnus Energy, I was pleased to see how much our ways of working and thinking aligned.

What are your ambitions here at Magnus Energy?

In general, I think there are immense synergies and added value in sharing experiences across the different European regions. There are numerous ongoing programmes that require extensive collaboration across the energy sector to achieve major changes. I believe that at Magnus Energy, we can leverage these experiences across regions. There are many exciting initiatives in the Nordic Region. It’s my ambition is to solidify and expand our current involvement in the region and to set up a Nordic hub for Magnus Energy.

What motivates you in your work?

I thrive on the challenge of building something new while also drawing on best practices, such as those developed by Magnus Energy. I’m looking forward to the journey of building a dedicated team in the Nordics – it will be both demanding and rewarding.
