Introduction to Capacity Calculation

Powering the pan-European electricity market starts with understanding the cross-zonal capacity available for cross-zonal trading.

Why join this training?

This online training offers a structured introduction to the principles and processes behind cross-zonal capacity calculation in the EU. Whether you are curious about capacity calculation, want to understand the key differences between (c)NTC and Flow-Based methods, or you are looking for a deeper dive in the capacity calculation process in Core CCR, this session will give you the technical and regulatory basis you need.

Build a Strong Foundation: Learn the essential terminology, logic, main process steps, and objectives of capacity calculation for the EU electricity markets.

Understand Key Methodologies: Grasp the common and distinctive features between (Coordinated) Net Transmission Capacity ((c)NTC) and Flow-Based (FB) approaches.

Navigate the Regulatory Landscape: Explore the Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management (CACM) guideline and how it shapes the capacity calculation processes.

Gain Insight: Insight into the main inputs and process steps of flow-based capacity calculation in the Core Capacity Calculation Region (CCR) and understand how this impacts capacity allocation.

Stay Future-Ready: Get a snapshot of upcoming developments and evolving methodologies in the EU landscape.

For whom

Intermediate level

This training is indispensable if you want to understand the different capacity calculation methodologies used in Europe, their purpose, commonalities, and differences.

A basic understanding of the functioning of European electricity markets and regulatory framework are recommended for this training.  Participants should ideally complete the “Regulatory Framework for EU Electricity Market Integration” and “Foundations for EU Coupled Day-Ahead & Intraday Electricity Markets” modules beforehand.
