What you'll learn
[Past] 24/09, 13h00-13h45 CEST –The What, Why and How of Energy System Flexibility
Flexibility is no longer a “nice-to-have”. It is the backbone of a decarbonised, electrified and reliable energy system and should be viewed as an essential part of any business model in the energy system.
In this first webinar of our Flex Webinar series, Ksenia Tolstrup & Martin Roach will paint the bigger picture to connect the dots of what flexibility really is, why power systems increasingly depend on it, and how it is valued and regulated in practice. We'll also dispel some myths & misconceptions along the way.
08/10, 13h00-13h45 CEST - EU Electricity Markets & System Services
Negative prices, duck and canyon curves, Dunkelflaute and Hellbrise all have to do with the need for more flexibility - both in the system and in the markets.
In this second webinar of our Flex Webinar series, Patricia Bhrliková & Ksenia Tolstrup will show its relevance for the wholesale markets & its participants, and they will illustrate how this interaction affects business models & system operation.
22/10, 13h00-13h45 CEST - Balancing markets in the EU
System balancing has always needed flexibility, but that it'll actually be available can no longer be taken for granted. Are balancing needs going to increase or decrease? What does the business case for newcomers in an increasingly integrated balancing market look like? Where is balancing market design going?
Carlos Úbeda & Ksenia Tolstrup will dive into these questions in the third webinar of our Flex Webinar series.
05/11, 13h00-13h45 CEST - Resource Adequacy & Capacity Mechanisms
Capacity mechanisms also rely of multiple flexible resources and the reason is simple; as decarbonization and electrification progress, the answer to the questions of how to ensure security of supply at all times is not trivial. Not only do future systems need firm capacity, they also need highly flexible ones, to address rapid generation swings reliably. What are the right incentives for them to be there and deliver when the system needs them the most?
In this fourth and final part of our Flex Webinar series, Martin Roach and Ksenia Tolstrup will discuss capacity mechanisms from the point of view of flexibility providers and system operators, why they are increasingly rolled out around Europe, what kind of value they can deliver and what the tradeoffs are in an integrated electricity market & the grid.
