Masterclasses for TSOs in central-western Europe
In 2018 and 2019, the TSOs involved in the former Central-Western Europe (CWE) region experienced a need to bring their people up-to-speed on the developments and specificities of energy market integration. CWE consisted of nine TSOs, and has now evolved into the CORE capacity calculation region (CCR), which also encompasses the Central and Eastern European TSOs. Market integration programs are complex and involve many actors and numorous technical, regulatory and often times pollitical difficulties. With many participants working under time pressure, the need for transferring knowledge about the bigger picture of European market integration developments and the specifities of the day-to-day operations was dire.
Magnus Energy was asked to assess the training needs of the CWE TSOs and to design a curriculum accordingly. Ensuring everyone involved in the CWE projects had the right knowledge to play their part in the overall CWE program.
2-day Masterclasses
Our team set up a 2-day series of Masterclasses, which balanced transferring knowledge and fostering connections between participants. We involved several experts from the TSOs and service providers to develop the program and the content of the different modules of the Masterclasses. These modules covered regulatory developments, technical details, and day-to-day operations. Our team also organised formal and informal occasions for participants and experts to get to know each other better. To forge new connections and increase collaboration.
The Masterclasses proved beneficial. It stimulated cross-TSO connections and brought people up to speed. And, first and foremost, it created common ground and a common language to make cooperation in the CWE program easier. Ultimately, creating more trust and progress between the parties involved and strengthening the CWE community as a whole. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CWE Masterclasses in the Core CCR context were temporarily suspended. However, our team has recently been tasked with resuming the organisation of Masterclasses for the Core parties in 2024.
