Reducing emissions and energy cost
How an energy-intensive company is set to reduce emissions & costs
An energy-intensive company with sites in The Netherlands and Belgium wanted to advance its decarbonisation plans and reduce energy costs. In a local grid that is highly congested, this is easier said than done. Magnus Energy supported the company in identifying and seizing opportunities both internally and in collaboration with key players in the energy grid.
Key figures
- 27 sites
- 500 GWh/a Power
- 1.5 TWh/a Gas
Approach
- Energy strategy: We analyse the company’s energy mix, strategic steering, flexibility, storage, mandates and policies, risk appetite, and decarbonisation of processes. Based on a maturity assessment, we develop a strategy combined with concrete improvements.
- Energy tendering: We determine current and future requirements, then tender, negotiate, and finalise energy contracts.
Result
The smart energy strategy led to:
- The company understanding how to reduce emissions and costs – through energy consumption and efficiency, electrification of assets, and sustainable processes. It also identified how to use flexibility and demand response, including opportunities for grid support.
- New energy contracts for 2027-2029 across its Dutch and Belgian sites.
