Supporting a key flexibility pilot
One European TSO and several DSOs aim to establish a joint market for procuring grid and system services from flexible, decentralised energy resources. The project seeks to enhance coordination, flexibility, and stable grid operation. Following a successful pilot project, Magnus Energy was asked to provide independent project management to bring this ground-breaking project into the scale-up stage – and beyond.

Approach
Working from our proven project methodology for multiparty projects we align goals, responsibilities and expectations. We establish a four-stage roadmap: from pilot to integrated, scalable platform. First, we develop a simple concept with the TSO and a limited number of DSOs to validate the approach and potential challenges before creating a full-scale joint TSO-DSO platform.
Results
The initial stages produced a concept agreed by all project parties, forming the basis for a joint TSO-DSO flexibility market. This was followed by a pilot involving the TSO, several DSOs, and select Flexibility Service Providers (FSPs) to demonstrate the concept of optimisation-based market clearing and flexibility allocation.
